Joel Conison
Joel Conison has been a working photographer for over 35 years, both professionally and in the fine arts. He worked professionally in Chicago, Cincinnati & Atlanta. Awards for his professional work included The One Show (NYC), The NY Advertising Club, The Art Directors Club in Cincinatti, to name a few. His fine art work has been shown in Ohio, Texas, Florida, New York, and Atlanta. He taught college classes in Atlanta for a number of years. Currently he is living in Atlanta and continues concentrating on fine art projects. Joel Conison has a Master of Fine Arts from the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn NY
Artist Statement
Simplicity is what I strive for when making images. Showing only what is needed and eliminating the rest. Generally, I am interested in isolating tones or colors, intentionally not creating a full toned or multi-colored image. Basically, things are not as they seem or as they are understood to be. I am not interested in the pictorial nature of things photographed but trying to move the representation to the suggestive. I question, not in the cynical sense but the observational one.
